We are in 1960 and Dozza it was still a country nearly forgotten, disowned, far away from the great ways of communication and therefore from the great currents of traffic, lacking completely in tourism. In that year the Rocca Sforzesca, until then private residence of Marquises Malvezzi-Campeggi, passed in property of the Common one of Dozza and after an adapted restoration it came opened the public.

The problem was at the same time placed to introduce "" Dozza to outside of the local borders, "to carry" and convogliare towards this laughing country the regional and national tourism: the callback reasons were more than valid, the imposing and majestic Rocca Sforzesca with its rich furnishing and its picture gallery, but also the particular structure urban planning of its historical center, its agricultural products with particular reference to its prelibati and fragranti wines like Trebbiano, the Sangiovese and the famous Albana (an ancient one sonetto of an anonymous poet define "Dozza fecund mother of maschie and albane fragranti ".)

In those years the Prizes imperversano in our region and the extemporaneous painting Competitions and not were fair or sacred countrywoman where painters did not look at themselves engages to you on support: Dozza it wanted to make something of various and For Native place "it invented" the PAINTED WALL the first edition was carried out in june 1960, two days of duration, the saturday and Sunday, and was held to baptism from an annoying rain and continues that the hard work of the painters hindered not little; also however the manifestation had a large one happening of numerous public accorso to assist, under the umbrella, to the job of the artists.

"bathed Wall, fortunate Wall", never proverbio have been demonstrated more appropriate and true; they followed other four editions anniversaries in years 1961-1962-1963-1964, with critic and public happening that very went beyond the forecasts and the more optimistic expectations. The Painted Wall had demonstrated a formidable advertising vehicle for Dozza beyond that a cultural fact had opened the road to the tourist development and therefore associate-economic of the country. To that point For Native place of Dozza the determined ones to make to make the "Painted Wall" a quality jump transforming it, with the precious collaboration of famous Critics of Art and Journalists (between which Marassi, Carluccio, DeMicheli, Valsecchi, etc...) in BIENNIAL of MODERN ART. From then insigni masters of the national and international painting (which Matta, Saetti, Sassu, Purified, One drinks a toast, Gravies, etc...) have realized on the large walls of Dozza frescoes walls them, contributing in determining way to elevate and artistic the manifestation culturally, and to make that Dozza it came defined "understood them of I fresco modern".

The Biennial ones 1965-1967-1969-1971 were carried out (as of the rest the first 5 editions) with the system of the "competition" or true and own contest: giuria, graduatoria of merit with prizes differentiates to you: from 1973 instead the "competition" it came abolished exceeding the concepts just by now frustrates of the graduatorie, and the artists it considers you at par, with equal prizes and acknowledgments for all. Since 1962 (and still today) the admitted artists have had to leave the organization the "sketch" of their work wall them: in this way exceptional Gallery of modern Art, the PINACOTECA of the Painted Wall has been possible to prepare in the halls of the Rocca Sforzesca one, equipped from one rich photographic documentation with several editions: in the same Gallery some works are deposited wall them "torn" in order to save them from the destruction caused from the maltempo and other atmospheric agents.

In eighteen editions of the "Painted Wall" svoltesi up to now, beyond 180 artists they have left on the walls of Dozza one artistic testimony, transforming of fact the village in one Gallery of permanent Art, in rinomato and a much searched cultural center, in one large tourist truth.
